There is a small upgrade outside San Antonio... continue through New Mexico & Arizona. In Pheonix take the 93 to Hoover Dam. A small incline before dam & after dam. it merges with 95 in Nevada... Continue into Vegas. Any routes more to the north go over some very steep mountains. You should be able to find these freeways all on mapquest. Gas will get more expensive incrementally from Texas on West. gas is way cheaper in AZ than Nevada...top off before leaving the state. At some point this year, a bypass will be completed, but that is not for ten months or so. That will be the most difficult portion to tow a vehicle. Option (1) take the truck bypass through Laughlin Nevada. After 9/11 they were afraid that trucks could carry enough explosives to blow up the dam and trucks were forced to take a bypass. Look on a map. Option (2) Take I15 back to Barstow and get on I40 there. This will cost you several hundred miles of additional travel.
