What are some decent neighborhoods in Las Vegas to live?

GrizzlyBlack asked:

I am relocating to Las Vegas in 6 months and I need to know what areas are decent to live in. I am looking to spend no more than 1500.00 for rent on a place with an attached garage. Any suggestions and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A good place to start is with information on the areas of Vegas, don’t get fooled by a Realtor telling you an area is okay, there are pretty much only two main options - Summerlin and Henderson. You can get all the info you need at:

The main areas that people commute from in Las Vegas are Summerlin and Henderson. Lake Las Vegas is not an area I would recommend looking into unless you want to gamble on the situation there (Lake Las Vegas is bankrupt, the casinos that anchored it closed and general amenities like a grocery store are far away). You can find a rental under $1500 with a two car garage easily.

Henderson is southeast of the strip and maintains a slightly younger demographic. You will see a little bit of traffic around drive times but nothing shocking. Summerlin is west/northwest of the strip (about 15-20 miles away but has good access via freeways - the 215 beltway and Summerlin Parkway).

Summerlin and Henderson have stellar deals right now on rentals. Take the time to pick your neighborhood carefully, yes most of the houses out here look similar but neighborhoods vary greatly. In summary, Summerlin is a slower pace with more of a family and outdoor vibe to it. Henderson is closer to the action (if that’s what you are looking for) and has more restaurants. Henderson would be your best bet. I lived in Summerlin and just moved to Henderson. I prefer Henderson as it has more than Summerlin. Rents are cheaper in Henderson and at that price you won’t have a problem finding a place. Look on craigslist for houses for rent. lvgeno

Finding an attached garage is hard but possible but the COL goes up. You want in areas like The Lakes, Picolle Ranch or Summerlin. banananose_89117

HENDERSON is too expensive and your all stuck up.

North town is the cheapest for 15000.00
Its not the BEST place but there is a few spots here that have no trouble at all. Lalala

zip code is 89052. And that rent is very affordable in the area of Hendeson. Today is June 5 and if you can access the Las Vegas Review Journal on line edition, business section. There was a great story today on how it is actually cheaper to buy then rent. YOu can get a great house in Henderson now for under $175,000. With a modest down payments you will be in the 1400 zone and that will include property taxes and incidentials.
rent.com is also a good site. When I lived in Jersey used it to fnd housing out here. And they give you a $100 gift card it you actually sign a lease. Michael M
