Pros: Opportunity for work, warm weather in winter, cheap and affordable housing.

Cons: Transient community, hot weather in summer, promotes opportunities in establishing bad habits of gambling, smoking and drinking. I wouldn’t want to raise my kids there. Marco’s girl

Great weather. You still get a winter here but very mild compared to other locations. The worst part right now is there aren’t any jobs available. When a job opens up there are 100 well qualified candidates right there applying for it. So far as kids, there are better places. It is too hot in the summer for them to play outside if you can believe that. People here stay to themselves so you don’t make many friends especially your neighbors. You might want to read the following webpage. They put it just the way it is here. lvgeno

I am sorry if this sounds like a downer, but I lived in Nevada for 10 years and wouldn’t go back for any amount of money. The influence and effect the casino industry has on employment, cost of living, high welfare rolls, crime, homelessness and the general transient nature of the state was too much for us. The only thing I ever enjoyed was the weather. USA lady

First con is the economy. Jobs are very hard to find, usually minimum wage in casino with benefits. The State, Clark County and all cities around Vegas, including Vegas, has frozen hiring and laying off people. Other cons are adjusting the hot summer weather in Mojave Desert and the lack of true four seasons. The COL is like LA.

Vegas is a wonderful city like any other, away from the tourist areas. Name it and Vegas has it. Millions of kids have been raised to happy and productive lives. Besides the public school system there are private and charter schools. Most homes, especially new ones, have very small yards. Some have parks as part of the community home development for kids to enjoy. The biggest issue is the 24/7 schedule of homes so you may never see/visit your neighbor.

Have I ever regretted the decades we spent in Vegas? Not really. But as you get older and have a family, your biological family is important. And when you visit other cities you may realize there are environmental things, eg fall weather, snow, etc., you miss banananose_89117

Pros: Shopping, night life, mild winters
Las Vegas isn’t inexpensive if you don’t splurge on entertainment. And when it snows here in the valley, it’s like a party.

Cons: No jobs, challenging for highest unemployment and foreclosure rates in the nation; 120-degree August weather, crowded freeways during business hours, tourism stranglehold on the economy

Notes: I don’t recommend moving here on the job situation alone. Your Uncle Dodge!

I lived in vegas since i was 3 up until a year ago (im 28). its all fine and dandy when you are single, or a teenager looking to get into trouble. i mean i was a pretty good kid other than skipping class once in a while, and partied a little bit, but trouble is always just around the corner and not hard to find. once we had kids i realized i don’t want my kids growing up there, just because no matter how good a kid you raise, temptation and peer pressure will always be there waiting for them to slip up. the only way you can make sure your kids don’t get involved in gangs or drugs would be to be a hard ass on them and that’s not the kind of parent most of us want to be.

the pros would be it can be a fun place, but the strip gets old, real quick. you meet interesting people from all walks of life.

    cons-
HOT and i mean melting hot
    bad air quality
economy is terrible, huge unemployment rate
gangs, mostly wannabes but still trouble
    drugs, meth in almost everywhere
    its overpopulated
schools are terrible, class sizes too large, i didnt realize my kids were behind until moving to another state Morales Familee
