What is the best helicopter tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon?

las vegas
Jonathan asked:

I am going to Las Vegas in May for my birthday and I want to take a tour to see the Grand Canyon. As I am only in Vegas for three days I think a helicopter tour will be best. There seems to be a lot of tour operators offering helicopter trips to the Canyon. I would appreciate it if people could recommend an informative, fun tour that is good value for money. Many thanks.

We took a great tour with Papillon -

There were a number of helicopter tours from which to choose, and their prices were the best. We had a great time. Melissa

i review helicopter tours from las vegas for a living. i just took a flight to Grand Canyon West with Papillon and it was rock solid. These guys have tour that’s tailor made for people who are in LV for a couple of days and want to do the Canyon right. This tour will also land you on the bottom of the Grand Canyon’s West Rim. Dollar for dollar this IMHO is the tour for you

Have fun! It’s an incredible ride.

Contrary to what you have just read there are no air tours based out of Las Vegas that will get you anywhere near the real Grand Canyon.
If you want to do helicopter tour over the real Grand Canyon then you’re gonna have to fly on a fixed wing aircraft from one of three Las Vegas area airports to Grand Canyon National Park Airport -GCN - and then board a helicopter from there
Know that the airspace over GCNP is highly restricted and that there is a huge No -Flight Zone over the most visited part of the Park
Know that even in the areas that you can legally fly over the Park there is a hard deck of 11500 msl>something about flying VFR in canyons
Know that unless you’re on official business it’s illegal to fly below the Rims of the Canyon- which means no below Rim landings in the Park
Know that the term West Rim is a marketing creation and you will not find the previously nonexistent place on older maps
Enjoy the real Canyon mr danger

I recommend the Grand Canyon Landing Free Spirit tour from Mustang Helicopters. About a 4 hour tour you will fly over hoover dam, lake mead, and Fortification hill then land 3500 feet down in the canyon for refreshments and snacks. On the way back you will fly through the black canyon. The other is the Silver Cloud from Maverick Helicopters, an air only tour about 2.5 hours total from hotel to hotel with 1.5 hours airtime. You will still fly over the same stuff, but instead of landing you will fly below the rim of the canyon. On the way back you will fly over downtown and the strip. The first tour is 340 PP and the second tour is 360 PP. If you want to book any of theses you can get a hold of me at Le Voyage travel desk at Paris. Ask for Phillip. Phillip S
